Clinical Certificate Course at Ahead Academy

A patient came with a complaint of pain in upper right region of the jaw. After Root Canal Treatment, a crown was placed. The lady is happy with her appearance and satisfied.

A 46 year old man came with pain in lower front region. On examination, pulp stones were noticed and the tooth had to be extracted. The extraction was performed by a student of our new batch at AHEAD Academy, New Delhi.

Clinical class in endodontics was held at our New Delhi centre. Pit and fissure sealant, pulpectomy, pulpotomy and apex genesis were discussed. The class was followed by a demonstration of sealant placement.   Pit and fissure sealants are materials that are applied to the pits and fissure surfaces of teeth to create a thin barrier which protects the sealed surface from decay. Sealants are a safe and painless way of protecting teeth from decay. A sealant is a protective plastic coating, which is applied to the biting surfaces of the back teeth. It forms a hard shield that keeps food and bacteria from getting into the tiny grooves in the teeth and causing decay.

A 50 year lady came to the AHEAD dental academy, Mohali for dental treatment and complained about difficulty in chewing food due to missing teeth in upper arch. Medical history was taken and case was examined if implant surgery can be planned. Radiographs were taken to evaluate the bone support and distance from maxillary sinus. Implant treatment plan was explained to the patient and implant surgery was planned at AHEAD, Mohali. Dental implant surgery is a procedure that replaces roots with metal, screw like posts and replaces damaged or missing teeth with artificial teeth that look and function like natural teeth. In this procedure incision is given at crest of edentulous area and flap is raised and bone is exposed for drilling. Basic steps in implant surgery included soft tissue reflection and drilling of bone at desired length according to case. After drilling of bone, the drilling direction is checked using paralleling pins by radiograph and implant placement is done and is inserted using implant inserter. Implant placement is reconfirmed through radiograph and then Cover screw is inserted into the implant and tightened. Suturing is done and the flap is closed. It takes minimum 40-60days for the osseointegration to take place that is the bone formation around the implant. Post-surgical instructions were given to the patient and recalled for suture removal after 1 week. Next step is performed after 2-3 months after the bone formation takes place.
